But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really funny. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You start ruminating about the nature of it all. Was this intended to be funny?

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a case of bedhead hair. I couldn't do it to look presentable. As I was hurrying out the door, I trippedover and dropped my lunch all over myself. To make matters worse, I was totally behind schedule for a very important appointment.

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
